GalleryPal is a museum app that assists visitors to enjoy their museum visit while they get a good knowledge of the arts and objects. This was a 5 days Google Venture Design Sprint project for GalleryPal. The initial action was started by reviewing and synthesizing provided information such as a short background about the project, user research highlights, quotes from regular museum visitors, and an interview with a professional tour leader. The challenge is how we can improve the experience of viewing art in a museum or gallery.
Subproblems:
Visitors lose a lot of time reading the art labels and do not have enough time for the art details.
Visitors get rushed in their visit if they have a tour guide.
Visitors sometimes are overwhelmed by the amount of information they get in a museum and cannot memorize them.
Visitors like to get some highlighted information from the arts.
Visitors are interested to know experts’ opinions and fun facts about the art.
Visitors sometimes have a time limit for their visit.
Visitors might not have internet access in some locations.
The design goal is to create a mobile application that transfers essential information quickly to museum visitors and benefits them with interesting details.
Scenario 1
Scenario 2
Research
The study of the documents shows that visitors have a limited time frame for their trip, and they get overwhelmed by the amount of art labels information. Visitors’ pain points were identified to spend more time reading art labels or listening to a tour guide than enjoying the art.
Help regular visitors plan their museum or gallery trips.
Provide short but beneficial information for each art.
Help visitors to find their appropriate gallery through their time and purpose.
Create a feature that can recognize the art quickly.
Make the museum observation effortlessly.
Solution
A mobile application enables users to find galleries and museums at their location by scanning QR codes or plan their visits by finding a museum in a list with its details in advance. Gallerypal allows all users, regardless of their technical knowledge, to benefit from the application with simplified content and visual symbols. Visitors also have an opportunity to receive highlighted information from experts in online and offline mode during their visits.
What I did
In this project, I worked as an individual UX and UI designer to synthesize information and design the solution in 5 days. The research process included reviewing the provided data and studying competitors’ applications to learn how they address the users’ pain points. Eventually, I mapped a visitor’s journey to analyze a visitor’s challenges.
Practiced 8s Crazy sketch to brainstorming the solution in 8 minutes.
Created 2 storyboards to visualize different scenarios for visitors.
Created interactive wireframes to test the initial ideas with users.
Developed prototypes and implemented design iteration after each user testing.
